Berlin Meeting Advances Peace Efforts Between US, Ukraine

(MENAFN) Officials from the United States and Ukraine convened in Berlin on Sunday for negotiations centered on a 20-point peace initiative and economic priorities, according to an official summary of the discussions.

The talks brought together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US special envoy Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, along with delegations representing both nations. The session extended for more than five hours, based on the account released by Witkoff on the US social media platform X.

Delegates engaged in "in-depth" exchanges covering the proposed peace roadmap, economic matters "and more," the statement noted.

It further emphasized that "A lot of progress was made, and they will meet again tomorrow morning," signaling continued engagement between the sides.

Germany facilitated the discussions ahead of a larger summit scheduled for Monday evening, set to include Zelenskyy, European leaders, and officials from the EU and NATO. Whether representatives from the United States will attend that broader gathering has yet to be confirmed.

Zelenskyy arrived in the German capital earlier Sunday to participate in intensive consultations focused on a possible ceasefire and a comprehensive peace structure with Russia.

Prior to the meeting, the Ukrainian leader stated that Kyiv is now seeking bilateral security assurances from Washington, in addition to commitments from European partners and other nations such as Canada and Japan.

This latest encounter forms part of an ongoing sequence of diplomatic engagements aimed at establishing a peace framework to conclude the Russia-Ukraine war, following earlier rounds of talks held in Switzerland and US.
