Vulkangruppe Admits Responsibility for Berlin Power Disruption
German outlets reported that the group known as Vulkangruppe delivered a letter to law enforcement, stating it had ignited cables linked to an energy facility in the Lichterfelde area. The act was characterized as “an action in the public interest.”
The organization asserted it had effectively disabled a natural gas station, presenting the assault as a gesture of global solidarity opposing the fossil fuel sector.
Additionally, the group expressed regret to inhabitants of less prosperous districts impacted by the blackout, noting that its compassion toward affluent communities was minimal.
Officials indicated that Vulkangruppe has been connected to several arson incidents in Berlin and Brandenburg since 2011.
The group has also been tied to attacks on the electrical systems of a Tesla plant in both 2021 and 2024.
Berlin’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution categorizes the collective as anarchist.
The blaze harmed power lines, interrupting supply to approximately 50,000 residences and 2,000 businesses, ultimately affecting more than 100,000 individuals. Authorities stated the outage may continue until January 8.
